Custom Stair Runner Installation at Tilal Al-Ghaf, Dubai By Fixing Expert

The Brief

The staircase looked good on paper. Pale stone treads, a glass balustrade along one side, a soft LED strip lighting the wall beside it. But it felt cold underfoot, and every footstep carried straight up the stairwell. The bigger worry was the kids. Stone gets slippery fast, and the family wanted something warm and safe without covering up the clean modern look they'd already built. Our team visited, walked the full flight with them, and completed the job in 1 day from that first look to final handover.

Measuring and Fitting the Runner

This wasn't a simple straight run. The flight had a main section, a quarter landing, and a winder section where every step is a different shape. We measured tread by tread, recording 18 steps across 2 landings, and the finished runner came to roughly 11.5 square metres. We brought samples to the villa and held them against the stone under the actual stair lighting, since a colour that reads warm under a showroom bulb can go flat under LED. The family picked a wool-blend loop pile in soft ivory-beige. It holds its shape under daily foot traffic and hides marks well.

Mustard Border Detail

The detail that changes the whole staircase is the border. We added a custom mustard-yellow strip along both edges of the runner, and it does two things at once. It picks up the tone of the LED wall strip, so the staircase reads as one connected design at night instead of two separate elements. It also traces the exact shape of every step, winders included, so from the bottom of the flight you see one unbroken yellow line running all the way to the top.

Installation Day

On install day, we covered every tread with protective fleece, taped the edges, and masked the glass and walls at each contact point. Each runner piece was wrapped over the tread nose and pulled tight at the back on gripper strips, no glue on the stone, no visible fixings. The border took the most care since each strip had to align exactly with the one above and below it, so the yellow line never shifts or breaks across the flight. The winder steps took the longest, each one cut from its own template since no two were the same shape. Our installer, Elena, cleared the protection, vacuumed the runner, and handed the staircase back the same evening.
