Choosing the Blind

A thicker fabric alone wouldn't fix an edge-gap problem. The real fix had to be mechanical.

We measured the window at three points, since glass walls in this tower rarely sit perfectly square. We specced a 100% blackout roller in a deep charcoal weave. Dense enough to block light on its own. Dark enough that dust doesn't show the way it would on a pale fabric.

Up close, the weave still reads as fabric, not flat vinyl. It catches light unevenly, with a bit of texture. 

Sealing the Edges

Alongside the roller, we fitted side channels running the full height of the window. These are slim aluminium tracks that grip the fabric as it drops. They seal the gap a standard roller always leaves at the sides.

That's the actual fix for a room that stays bright at the edges even with the blind fully down.

Installation Time

We covered the bed and the floor first. The roller bracket went up into the ceiling recess, so the headrail stays out of view.

The two side channels went in next. Screwed flush against the wall, checked for a dead straight line, since even a few millimetres off shows up as a light leak once the blind runs.

The roller went in last. Threaded into both channels, tested up and down a few times to make sure the fabric tracked straight. Our installer, Elena, ran it end to end one more time, wiped down the glass and sill, and left the room the same afternoon.
