Taupe Velvet Pinch Pleat Curtains with Ornamental Border at Villa 31, Orania, The Valley by Emaar, Al Ain Road
Summary
The owners of a villa at The Valley by Emaar had a living room that felt bare after the builder's curtains came down. We made four panels of warm taupe velvet with a fine embossed texture, finished each leading edge with a woven ornamental border, and hung them on an antique brass rod across the whole window wall. The border pattern was matched to a shawl the owner's mother had embroidered. Measuring was done on 2 September, stitching and border work took seven days, and the fitting took one day on 11 September 2026.

Project Scenario
The owners took over Villa in the spring and spent three months on the interior. They had been living with the original curtains, a thin cream polyester that had started to look yellow, and with a rod that sagged in the middle.
The owner's wife told our consultant that the room looked finished from every angle except one. She wanted the curtains to make the wall feel warm in the evening, when the family sits there after dinner and the cove lights are on.
Consultation
Our consultant visited on 2 September with six velvet swatches and a few border samples. Held against the sofa and the marble, a warm taupe velvet won the owner's wife over. She said it matched the colour of the room in the afternoon.
The border was her idea. A shawl her mother had embroidered lay on the sofa arm, in brown and cream with a repeating geometric pattern. We sourced a woven band in brown, cream and soft gold, about 9 cm wide, and sewed it down the leading edge of every panel. Where the two pairs meet in the centre, the borders sit side by side and form one vertical line.
Pinch pleats on an antique brass rod
We chose a triple pinch pleat for the heading. Each pleat is gathered into three folds and stitched by hand, and the lines run straight down to the floor. The heading band is reinforced, so the stitching shows faintly across the top, which is how a properly made pleat looks.
The rod is an antique brass finish, with clip rings that carry a hook for each pleat. Because the wall is 6.2 m wide, we used two lengths joined at a central support bracket, so the rod does not bend under the weight. Each panel weighs about 9 kg.
Full Day Work breakdown
Two technicians arrived at 9:30 am and started by moving the sofa and rug a metre away from the wall, then covering the marble with dust sheets. They marked the bracket line with a laser level, 15 cm above the frame and 30 cm beyond it on each side.
The first problem showed up at the left end. A cable for the cove lighting ran about 6 cm from where the bracket needed to go. The team moved the bracket 6 cm along the wall, checked the line again, and confirmed the rod would still sit level. The ceiling lights stayed on while they worked.
They hung the rod, slid on the rings, and lifted each panel. With velvet, the pile has to run the same way on every panel, or the colour looks different from the sofa. They checked this before the last pair went up. Then they steamed the folds and set the pleats one by one. The sofa back sits only 10 cm from the wall, so they adjusted the hem to 2 cm above the marble and made sure the panels hung clear of the cushions.
By early afternoon the curtains were up. The technicians moved the furniture back, put the rug straight, and vacuumed the floor. The owner's wife noticed that the warm light from the cove strip showed along both outer edges, behind the border bands. She asked us to leave the chandelier on while we packed up so she could see it from the sofa. We finished at 3:30 pm on 11 September 2026.
