Blackout & Sheer Curtains Installation at Umm Suqeim 3, Dubai By Fixing Expert

The owner had a bare window and a clear idea of what he did not want. No heavy drapes. No dark box. He wanted daylight kept, glare cut, and a way to close the room properly at night. We visited on 7 May 2026 and planned a two-layer setup.

Measuring the Window

We measured the window at three heights and three widths. Villa walls are rarely square, and a small error shows up fast in a long curtain.

The opening came to roughly 3.8 m wide with a 2.7 m drop. We ran the track wider than the glass, so the panels stack clear of the window when open. That keeps the full view and lets in more light.

Choosing the Fabric

We brought samples and held them against the wall and the sofa. Colour looks different in a showroom than in a real living room.

He chose a warm ivory sheer for the day layer. It softens the sun but keeps the room bright. For the night layer, he picked a slate-blue blackout with a soft, woven face. It is dark enough to close the room fully, and quiet enough not to fight the furniture.

The blackout has a lining sewn in behind the face fabric. That is what stops light from coming through the weave.

Making and Fitting the Curtains

The curtains were made to size in our workshop. We used a wave heading on both layers, cut at 2.2x fullness. Wave fold hangs in one smooth S-shape, with no gaps between pleats.

On site, we fixed a double track to the ceiling line and checked it was level. Sheer went on the inner track. Blackout went on the outer. Then we hung each panel and set the folds by hand.

Before leaving, we ran both layers open and closed several times. We steamed a few creases and cleared the dust sheets. The room was back to normal within 4 hours. Our installer, Elena, did a last walk-through with the owner before handing it over.
